I do love my porridge, but every now and then it just gets so boring. These breakfasts bars are a great alternative and you can add just about whatever you like to them so that they taste just like your porridge (on the go)! I saw something similar in my local supermarket a few days ago and thought, nah I can make those at home! Here’s my recipe, if like me, you want your daily boost of natural goodness but are sick of porridge and don’t want to kill yourself buying overpriced, expensive alternatives.
Ingredients:
200g rolled oats
2 very ripe bananas, mashed
1/2 cup dates, chopped
2-3 tablespoons honey
1 large apple, peeled and grated
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
A dash of vanilla
50g melted butter
Method:
– Preheat the oven to 150 degrees C and line a shallow baking tray with baking paper
– Mix all ingredients together until the mixture looks a bit moist
– Transfer the mixture onto the baking tray, flatten down, making sure it’s all tightly packed
– Bake in the oven for 35 minutes
– Remove from oven and slice while it’s still warm in the tray
– Remove individual slices once completely cool
– Store in an airtight container and enjoy for up to 7 days
